Why Diet and Stress is a Bad Combination
Tell me if this happened to you about diet and stress... after planning and preparing for weeks to lose weight and
look fabulous... something happens in your life that stressed you so much... that you fell off the wagon and
started to eat lots of comfort foods.
And of course all your dreams and efforts just went out the window. What happened?
Well, a little stress is normal and is important for us to recognize danger and how to avoid it. But for some of
us... we can't handle stress as well... and as a result, we tend to do self-destructive things that makes
everything much worse.
The key of course is to handle your stress way better than you have in the past... so you won't feel compelled
to overeat and get depressed. It is possible to use natural methods of alternative remedies to fight back and keep
on going while on a diet.
Sounds good so far?
The first thing to realize is that turning to foods to help alleviate or reduce the stress levels that we are
currently feeling is not a good idea. The better way is to find ways to combat and overcome the stress before it
overwhelms you.
And yes, there are ways that you can try that is natural and effective to defeating stress. One way is to
practice meditation. Grab a couple good meditation books at the library or buy them on Amazon.com or your favorite
bookstore. However, I would prefer checking out Amazon.com to see which books on meditation is the most favored
one...
So try meditation... it is a way to relax and rejuvenate your mind and soul so that you can face up to stress
and stare it down.
The best thing about meditation is... it doesn't really take that much time. This is why you should get a good
book on the subject or if you know someone who is a regular practictioner... that is even better!
Another way to alleviate stress is to do some activity that doesn't engage your mind so much. It can be anything
from crafts, planting a garden or even taking up model railroading. I remember growing up on a farm... we had a
HUGE vegetable garden and I had to spend most of my summers tending and weeding the garden. I remember how relaxing
and comfortable it was. And besides... you can always enjoy the fruits of your labor at the dinner table with fresh
fruits, veggies and herbs.
But your garden doesn't have to be big. Heck, you could just find another hobby that you prefer... sometimes
gardening can be a little too much nature for some folks. And that's OK!
Find another hobby that you would like to do and... DO IT!!
However, I completely understand if eating comfort food is a must have when you are dealing with stress. A great
option would be to stick with the healthier snacks... such as cutting up some fruit and eating raw almonds. This
way, you can eat all you want... and your diet and stress won't be affected by much.
But keep in mind that stress is here to stay. But it doesn't mean that stress has to rule your life. Especially
when you are on a diet because you want to improve yourself and your health. But do a little preparation for
emergencies and figure out ways to handle that stress so you won't ruin your diet by overeating.
Good luck,
Kate
