Stress Management Tips for the Workplace – Part 1

I believe one of the most common places that people are stressed about would be the workplace. And to admit it… when you have a bunch of people with incompatible personalities, stress is going to be the inevitable result. The key here is to learn how to control it so that stress can be kept to a minimum. So I thought I would write about the stress management tips for the workplace to help you recognize and identify the stresses before it gets out of hand.

Without further ado…

Rude and mean co-workers

Yep. We have all seen and heard them. And whether these people realize what they are doing to everyone else or not… they are causing a lot of stress for everyone and the misery they spread just makes everyone’s job that much harder to do and does have a huge affect on job performances. So if you are reading this and are in a management position… this might be something you should keep a close watch on because one permanently crabby employee can ruin a well performing office.

And there are some things that you CAN do about it if it’s your co-worker that is just driving you nuts. The first thing to try is to completely ignore that person and don’t let them affect you. Sort of like ignoring the “troll” on a Internet forum… if you ignore them… they usually go away. Because they crave attention and the best way to do that is to know that they really can get under your skin.

However, ignoring them sometimes won’t work. In this case, you may have to talk the situation over with them. Because as I mentioned earlier, sometimes these people have no idea how much they are upsetting everyone. And it you mention it to them, in a totally non-confrontational way of course… they may get the hint. If anything, getting this out in the open should help relieve some of your stress.

And of course, if THAT doesn’t work… then you are going to have to take it upstairs and let the boss in the loop. This is his/her job – to manage the office or workplace so that everyone can get the job done effectively. And if everyone is unhappy, well… Hopefully, you have a great boss that can deal with the problem and straigten everything out.

I will talk about the mean and crabby bosses and heavy workloads in my next post.

’til then,

Kate :)

Most my stress during working are really caused by my mean boss. For those co-workers, we can just ignore them but boss cannot be ignored unless you are not working under him/her.

Employers should provide a stress-free work environment, recognise where stress is becoming a problem for staff, and take action to reduce stress. Stress in the workplace reduces productivity, increases management pressures, and makes people ill in many ways, evidence of which is still increasing. Workplace stress affects the performance of the brain, including functions of work performance; memory, concentration, and learning.
