I Need Help to Manage Stress
Recently, I got an email from a man about the difficulties that he is going through because of stress. And while it is fairly common and everyone has varying degrees of how to handle it… I always think that if it gets too hard for you to manage stress… you should seek help because no one should be so unhappy:
Hi Kate
I am really struggling to find any sort of motivation at work. I have had a few events occur in my life which has found me back in my old company I left (with the same perceptions etc) of which I am regarded well. I came back to a better job as well in the financial industry paying a reasonable salary.
I feel completely lost, extremely stressed (all the time) and coming into work every morning feels like one day more in hell.. but in reality, it really isn’t that bad?? No one is out to get me..but still I feel like I just want to walk out forever and work in a bar..??
Why has this become this way??
I feel I’m living in complete despair and have lost the desire or happiness to do anything.. I’m not sure where to start in beginning to get better.
It has affected all my relationships in my life including girlfriend, friends and family.
I want to enjoy life again.. and it all seems so hard.. when in reality.. I know I have a spoilt, lucky life with caring people all around me..
What do I do??
Ben (Not his real name to protect his privacy)
Hi Ben,
I’m so sorry to hear about your struggles with stress. I think you definitely need to find someone to talk to. But be aware of who you talk to. For example, it may not be a good idea to talk to a co-worker or your boss because word can get around that affects your career.
Talking to your minister, a trusted friend or even a professional are all good places to start. But do it before things get worse.
It sounds like you may have a good support group, so maybe you can let them help you sort things out?
I really wish I could do more… and I really hope you find your way through it all because after all, I think we all deserve to be happy… within our lives and the lives we choose to have around us.
warmly,
Kate
