Common Sense Approaches to Eliminate Stress
I was reading an interesting article on the Washington Post. It was written by an author of a book about depression and a clinical professor of psychiatry at Georgetown Medical School to boot…
In this article, Some Simple Steps for the Stressed-Out — Mr. Gordon gives examples about clients seeking help and noted that in the 40 years he has been practicing psychiatry… he has never seen the level of stress or worry about economic future as he is seeing today.
And he thinks that because of all the worrying… many symptoms of chronic illnesses that were either being controlled or dormant… are now erupting to the surface… and it is endemic…
Unfortunately, a lot of people are turning to drugs, alcohol and prescription medications to “quiet” their apprehensions.
But the author does give us some common sense alternatives for stress relief that (to me it does) makes more sense and is a healthier approach than drugs, alcohol or doing nothing:
- Try some simple meditation techniques.
- Exercise (See? I’ve been telling that to my readers for quite some time now!).
- Seek connection to others. Or reconnect to others.
- Find someone to listen to you that you respect… and expect that person to help you sort things out.
- Use the power of imagination to find new meaning and purpose in your life.
- Learn to speak up for yourself.
The best part about these suggestions is that they don’t cost you money. But you are doing something to move forward.
However, my suggestion is to learn how to use self-help to virtually eliminate your fears, phobias, anxieties and panic attacks with Panic Away by Barry Joe McDonagh.
warmly,
Kate

Thanks for the post! Deep breathing exercises are excellent for anxiety and many people report positive results from meditation. Some other natural anxiety remedies to look into are St.John’s Wort, SAMe, L-Theanine, and Tryptophan.
