Uncommon Phobias List (One to Five)
I decided to do a little research and discover the uncommon phobias and fears that people have and list them for my readers. As always, these fears and phobias are NOT a laughing matter… those who suffer from them feel they are real!
Granted, most fears and phobias are irrational… but you can’t just tell the sufferer to “get over it.” That won’t work for one thing… and the other… you will make the sufferer feel bad about themselves and be more reluctant to seek help.
And the very action of seeking help is a very good thing… it means that you are on your way to recovery. I remember reading somewhere that the average time it takes for someone to get over their fears, phobias, anxiety disorders and panic attacks can be over 10 years!!
And why? Well, they are afraid of being laughed at or dismissed as kooks or crazy. And this is so very NOT true! It is just tricks played by our minds and the sufferer is the ONLY person who can make them go away. And one of the best ways for someone to “retrain” their minds to stop the fears and phobias is by using the Panic Away system by Barry Joe McDonagh.
Anyhoo… here is the uncommon phobias list (1 – 5)
- Paraskevidekatriaphobia – The fear of Friday the 13th which is normally associated with bad luck or unlucky Friday. In fact, the number, 13 is considered an unlucky number. Many buildings skip the 13th floor. Take a look next time you go up the elevator and see if the 13th floor is “skipped” between 12th and 14th floor. Historically, Friday the 13th was associated with the persecution of the Knights Templar by the Pope and King of France 1000 years ago.
- Ideophobia is the fear or distrust of ideas or of reason according to Merriam-Webster dictionary.
- Alliumphobia is the fear of garlic. I’m not talking about disliking the taste of garlic. I am talking about the morbid fear of garlic. It can be so bad that the sufferer can be terrified of them!
- Politicophobia is the fear of politicians. Truth be known… we SHOULD be scared of politicians because most of the time they make decisions that is NOT in our best interest…
- Somniphobia is the fear of sleeping. These sufferers are so scared of going to sleep because they are afraid they will never wake up again.
OK… here is the 1st five fears or phobias on my list of uncommon phobias. I’ll have some more for you later…
warmly,
Kate
