Deborah Gibson Panic and Anxiety Attack Story
In 2008, Deborah Gibson wrote a testimonial in the Sharing Miracles site about her struggles with anxiety attacks. It started when she was very young… then again, for those of you who don’t know who I am talking about… I’m talking about Debbie Gibson who was a teen pop icon in the late 1980s to early 1990s.
It started as anxieties…. that progressed to an mild anxiety attack. She described her first attack as just a “dizzy spell.” But it continued for 3 more years and there was an feeling of being out-of-body experience that never went away.
Eventually, her anxiety attacks bloomed into a full blown panic attack because panic attacks is the manifestation fear of getting another panic attack. At that point, Deborah started seeking help.
But as Deborah mentioned, identifying the problem as anxiety and depression is key. I truly believe that because many sufferers tend to avoid seeking help and recognizing that that they have a problem. And why? Well, probably because they are embarrassed and think that society will ridicule them for it.
But nothing can be further from the truth! You see, I just bet that your close friends and family members would absolutely love it if you can get better. And like what Debbie said, she was shutting out everyone… and once she acknowledged that she had a problem and addressed it… she was able to get help through medication and therapy.
And Debbie said one more thing… that many professional children (like her) grow up to have these problems because kids are not naturally equipped to handle fame.
For one, I think Deborah Gibson is a stand up person for admitting and telling us about her problems with anxiety and panic attacks as well as depression. Just because you are in a “special” situation doesn’t always mean that you are perfect.
So thank you Deborah for sharing your uplifting story and giving us hope and direction to seek help when we have problems that cannot be handled.
warmly,
Kate
