Suggestions How to Handle Head & Neck Pain
Did you know that having head & neck pain can be another symptom of headaches? Keeping that in mind, I want to bring up a couple of additional measures that you can do to help relieve your migraine & neck pain.
As always, I want to make sure you understand that I’m not a medical Doctor and cannot give you individualized medical advice. I’m just someone that is very interested in helping others relieve their sufferings by doing a bunch of research on the subject… which I love to do.
Having said all that, I want to repeat that having neck pains CAN mean you are having headaches. And the weird thing is that neck pains can either be the result of a headache or the cause of the headache. So it is something for you to keep in mind.
In any event… it is always a GREAT idea to see your doctor and find out whether or not you have a injury on your neck. Your neck is an amazing array of muscle, soft tissue and nerves and when you cause damage to them… it can cause neck pains. I know this is pretty obvious but you would be so surprised how many folks refuse to recognize this simple fact… either because they are stubborn or they just don’t feel comfortable with their doctors.
But I assure you that based on what I’ve read… modern medicine is nothing short of amazing these days. In fact, a few weeks ago, I read about the first successful total face transplant!! If you are not comfortable with your doctor, perhaps you can find another one?
Another thing to keep in mind about neck injuries is you may have injured your spine. And there are a lot of reasons why you don’t know for sure. Like suppose you fell down, been in a car accident or some other kind of accident that you should definitely have your medical doctor check you out.
Because these accidents I mentioned above CAN cause injuries that lead to head & neck pains, which leaves you feeling miserable. Rest assured that with proper diagnosis and treatment… you should be back to good and new. Your doctor may recommend treatments such as medication, surgery, manipulation or a combination of them.
However, if you determine that you don’t have a neck or spine injury… then you may want to figure out a treatment that helps you relax your muscle in the neck. When you think about it, your neck is holding up your head straight up all day long. And to top it off… when you are under stress… the muscles in your neck has to work overtime… if you get what I mean.
Not only that… women can also suffer from additional neck pain because of their bra straps.
By now you probably guessed that taking excellent care of your neck is paramount to reducing the head & neck pain. I would suggest yoga or even a stretch class or two to understand the correct movements. Additionally, you may even want to get a few good instructional videos so that you can do these activities in the privacy of your own home.
One important detail that most people miss is this… getting a great night sleep. This is why it is so IMPORTANT to have a very supportive bed. So don’t go the cheapskate route here. Get a good bed because it will be so worth it when you get a good night sleep more frequently. And don’t forget the pillows too! Get the right type that feels the most comfortable and supports your neck while you are lying down.
I also wanted to mention massages as another option for dealing with your head and neck pains. You could schedule regular massages or just make an appointment when your neck is bothering you. Here is a tip… if you are on a budget… you could try going to the massage therapy school nearby you. Students there can perform massages at a cheaper rate. Another way is to try the chair massages… they are shorter… and less expensive… but they work well too for some people.
Good luck and I certainly hope your neck pain goes away soon,
Kate
