When You Can’t Just Get Over Your Fears


I think one of the hardest things you can do is explain to your close friend or a family member your deepest fears in life.

And the reason for that is because of the reaction you probably will get instead of the one you wanted, a sympathetic shoulder… anywhere from a eye roll or a knee jerk response such as “You’ll get over it” or a “Just forget about it and it will go away.”

Truth be told, turning off your fears isn’t like turning off the water coming out of the faucet. The fears you have are embedded in your soul… and they become a part of your belief system. And it isn’t easy to overcome the fears.

But I hasten to add that you CAN find ways to relieve the panic and anxiety you feel when confronted by those fears!

So don’t feel like there is no hope for you and you are doomed to worry, panic and anxiety for the rest of your life.

And yeah, facing those fears is very, very hard to do… In fact, I was watching a show called, Britain Got Talent. And a guy came up on stage in front of all those people… skeptical people… PLUS SIMON COWELL… the mean guy, ya know!

And we all could see the body language of this poor guy. It was nothing like the confidence you see from concert and pop singers. Oh no… he had his hands in his pocket. He had trouble settling his nerves. I actually thought the poor guy was going to run from the stage screaming like a banshee…

But I’m sure glad he didn’t because he began to sing his heart out and I’ll tell you this, Jamie Pugh is one of the most emotional singers I have ever seen… I was so PROUD of him!!

So like Jamie Pugh, you CAN face your fears and win!! But due to our human nature, it is just instinctive for us to avoid whatever we are afraid of or that worries us or we fear can harm us…

And get this… these fears can be emotional or physical. But I think most fears are just emotional… just the IDEA of something bad happening to us can really strike home.

So keeping this in mind, you need to understand what exactly your fear is… is it credible or irrational. And don’t worry if it is irrational… you still need to deal with it anyways. But doing this little exercise can go a long way for you.

Let me try to give you an example of a credible fear… such as an abusive ex. THAT is a valid fear that would require some action on your part like filing for a restraining order.

On the other hand… and irrational fear might be something like having a panic attack every time you go out of your home… because you are afraid of catching the Swine Flu.

And when examining this exact fear, you might discover that it is way overblown and your chances of catching the Swine Flu is worse than getting struck by a lightning.

By now you should have a small idea of what kind of fear you have and then you need to know how to deal with that fear.

There are several ways that you can do this…

Adopt some breathing techniques, self hypnosis or get in touch with your doctor for prescription medication.

But here’s the thing… fears are part of being a human… but fears CAN get out of control. And this is why you need a close support system that you can trust… If not this, then you need to tell youself that “It is time for me to be responsible and control my fears before they control me.”
