Natural Ways for Overcoming Insomnia Part 2

As I said before, always consult with your doctor before trying any natural remedies because they may react with your prescription drugs.

Here are some natural home remedies for insomnia that you can try:

Aromatherapy – I talked about this in the past… aromatherapy is one of my favorite ways to combat the effects of stress and anxieties. It works well for me. I like to use scented candles such as Lavender, Chamomile or Ylang Ylang.

Meditation – I have known practitioners of Yoga that swear the deep breathing and meditation is very effective against residual stresses of the day. Try it to see if it will help you fall asleep naturally.

Melatonin – Melatonin is a natural hormone that is produced by your body to help you fall asleep naturally. But sometimes, your body doesn’t make enough of it… so taking this supplement might be the answer for you. It has been suggested that you take Melatonin before retiring for the evening.

Valerian – This is a something that you may want to try. It is non-addictive and have been used widely as a remedy for insomnia. It is supposed to help calm the neurotransmitters in your brain.

Diet – Don’t laugh! Controlling what goes into your body can have dramatic effects on your sleep. Try to avoid sugary foods and caffeine up to a couple of hours before going to bed. Also, try to eat more foods that are rich in magnesium such as the dark green veggies, nuts (raw cashews and almonds) ad bran. They may help calm your nerves and promote a more peaceful slumber.

I’ll talk some more about natural home remedies for insomnia that you can try in the next blog post.
